StepLoom Recorder
Three ways to record your app
The StepLoom Recorder is a free Chrome add-on that writes down every click you make. Pick the way that suits you. Every way ends in the same place: steps you can edit, translate and share.
No add-on: record your screen
Nothing to install, and it works in any modern browser. Record a tab, a window or your whole screen, or bring a recording you already made. You can add your voice and your camera.
- 1Press Record your screen. If you are not signed in, you sign in first and come straight back.
What you should see: A page called Record your screen with a Start recording button.
- 2Press Start recording and choose a tab, a window or your whole screen in the box your browser shows.
What you should see: A red bar or icon shows that your browser is recording.
- 3Click through your app. Press Stop recording when you are done.
What you should see: You can play your recording back before you keep it.
- 4Press Make a clickable demo from this. Already have a Loom, Zoom or QuickTime file? Press Import a screen recording above and choose Screen recording.
What you should see: StepLoom finds the screens and opens them in the editor.
- 5Open the demo and ask StepLoom AI to hide private details before you publish.
What you should see: Boxes cover the private details. A screen recording keeps every pixel, so look over each screen.
Install from a file
Download the StepLoom Recorder as one file and add it to Chrome yourself. It takes about three minutes. Chrome calls this loading an unpacked add-on, so you switch on Developer mode once. Version 0.3.0, 28 KB.

chrome://extensionsWhat you should see: A page called Extensions opens.
- 4Find the switch called Developer mode at the top right and click it once.

Chrome may remind you now and then that this add-on did not come from the Chrome Web Store. That is expected on this route.
Frequently asked questions
- If you work in Chrome, use the StepLoom Recorder: it takes a picture at every click and covers private details before anything is saved. If you cannot add an add-on, or you already have a recording, use the screen recording route.
- Only the StepLoom Recorder: its pages, its script and its icons. It talks to StepLoom and to nothing else.
- The add-on works in Chrome and in browsers built on it. Screen recording works in every modern desktop browser. The player your customers open works in every phone browser.
- The add-on covers passwords, card numbers, one-time codes, emails, phone numbers and long ID numbers on your computer before a screen is saved. Only the covered picture is sent, and only to your workspace.
- Use the phone's own screen recorder and upload the video with Phone Steps.
- It cannot record Chrome's own pages (they start with chrome://), the Chrome Web Store or PDF files. Open a normal web page and try again.
